Informed Consent

In the 1950s and 60s the mantra for consumers was…Buyer Beware! Today there are state and federal laws, dozens of government agencies and hundreds of consumer advocacy groups whose purpose is to protect and inform us. With the vast resources available to us on the internet, the 21st Century’s version of Buyer Beware is Buyer Be Aware!

In medicine "Be Aware" is called "Informed Consent" and it is that concept that is behind the Iris resource room. Medical informed consent is a patient’s written consent to a surgical or medical procedure or other course of treatment, given after the physician has told the patient all of the potential benefits, risks, and alternatives involved. This concept is based on the principle that a physician has a duty to disclose to a patient, information that allows the patient to make a reasonable decision regarding his or her own treatment. It would be fair to say, that is a daunting responsibility considering the limited amount of time physicians are able to spend with patients.

It is our mission at Iris Biotechnologies to help make your information search a little easier as you begin to explore all the ramifications of your medical condition. The internet offers a dizzying amount of information but we have tried to offer information that follows the principle of Occam’s Razor - the simplest explanation for any given problem is usually the best.
